Clara Barton and Robert Morris University Prepares Middle School Students for College and Beyond

Clara Barton and Robert Morris University Illinois Educational Talent Search (ETS) Program have joined together to prepare Middle School students for college and beyond. The ETS Program is designed to identify and select qualified students who with support will complete middle school, high school, enroll in college and select careers.

The Robert Morris University Illinois Educational Talent Search program enhances, promotes and teaches the skills needed to succeed in school while at the same time assisting students in reaching academic goals and achievements. In addition to helping them choose educational programs that will prepare them to meet their career goals, the Robert Morris University Illinois ETS program is able to provide individualized attention in addition to that which is given at Barton.

Services available to selected students are as follows:

  • One on one academic and personal counseling
  • Academic skills assessment
  • Self-esteem / values workshops
  • Test taking skills workshops
  • College Tours
  • Tutoring
  • Assistance with completing Financial Aid forms and college/scholarship applications for post-secondary education

To qualify for this program, students must be:

  • Enrolled in middle school at Barton School
  • At a low family income level
  • Potential first generation college student
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

The program does not end when students leave Barton. The ETS program continues to work with students after they have entered high school.  Clara Barton is 1 of only 6 Chicago Public Schools participating in this program.

Applications have been provided to all middle school students. An acceptance letter will be mailed out as soon as an application is completed and returned to the ETS Coordinator.
